What’s that Smell? How to Keep Your Football Equipment from Stinking

After a few practices, you may notice that there’s a foul odour coming from where you keep your football equipment. Unfortunately, this smell won’t go away on its own. If you’re embarrassed by the way your football equipment smells whenever you put it on in the locker room, here are a few ways that can help you keep it from stinking.

  • Create a Layer- When you get ready to put on your gear, always put on an extra layer to prevent sweat from directly soaking into your football equipment. For example, before you put on your pads, put on a shirt first. Not only will this help absorb a lot of your sweat, but it can also keep substances that bacteria like to feed on from getting onto your equipment, like grease and dead skin cells.
  • Air it Out- Never underestimate the power thoroughly drying out your football equipment can have on the way it smells. At PROlocker, our lockers and storage solutions make drying out your equipment easy, so you never have to worry about how it will smell once you step out of the locker room.

Invest in Baking Soda- Baking soda isn’t just for making cookies, cakes, and other baked goods. In fact, it can also help you control the smell of your football equipment. After you’re done wearing your equipment for the day, sprinkle some inside your cleats to minimize foot odour and add some to the washing machine when you’re cleaning your uniform if you feel like your regular detergent just isn’t doing the job.
